Native to Maryland, Drew Dedrick has lived in Baltimore for the past six years. He has dabbled in Art throughout his life, but without a real focus or intent. Given the demands of working in theatre and raising two sons, Drew was not able to dedicate time to his painting. In 2014, Drew underwent a significant life change when he left the theatre world behind to seek treatment for alcohol addiction at a recovery center in Baltimore City. After three years of sobriety, Drew entered into a relationship with a fellow artist. The environment they created together rekindled his artistic drive, which quickly evolved into a passion he never knew existed. Since then, he has painted nearly every day and developed his talent into a distinctive style of portraiture. Prior to his recovery, Drew was not able to paint detail, and painted abstract interpretations of the human figure. However, without the shakes of alcohol he quickly discovered a new capacity for precision. Drew has a unique relationship to color due to lifelong red/green colorblindness. Rather than inhibiting his work, his way of viewing color lets him paint with detachment to traditional color use, resulting in a daring palette. And now, Act 1...
